‘A Once In A Lifetime Horse’: Lady Aurelia Blazes To Victory In G1 King’s Stand Stakes

International star Lady Aurelia showed her affinity for Royal Ascot once again as she cruised to a three-length victory in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes June 20.

It was the second victory at Royal Ascot for the 3-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy. The Wesley Ward trainee captured the G2 Queen Mary Stakes in 2016.

Ridden confidently by John Velazquez, who was subbing for an injured Frankie Dettori, Lady Aurelia was settled just off the pace in fifth through the early stages of the race. With just over two furlongs to run, Velazquez asked his filly for more and the response was immediate, as Lady Aurelia shot to the front in a just a few strides.

At that point, the race was over, as Lady Aurelia opened up in the final yards to win by three lengths. Profitable finished second, with Marsha just a head back in third.

Final time for the five furlong dash was 57.45 seconds.

The victory was the eighth Royal Ascot win for trainer Wesley Ward, who told reporters after the race, “I can’t believe it. I’ve been blessed with fast horses. I’m very excited. She’s something. A very, very special filly.”

“This is a Group 1 featuring the fastest sprinters in the world, and to duplicate last year, she’s a once-in-a-lifetime horse.”

“She’s amazing, she loves it over here and we look forward to a big summer. The owners are so excited and it’s wonderful for American racing.”

Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet, Lady Aurelia is owned by Stonestreet, George Bolton, and Peter Leidel. She was a $ 350,000 Keeneland September Yearling sale purchase. Lady Aurelia is out of D’ Wildcat Speed (by Forest Wildcat), winner of the G2 Rampart Stakes.
