American Patriot (War Front) wins the Maker’s 46 Mile (G1) at Keeneland on 4.14.2017. Javier Castellano up, Todd Pletcher trainer, WinStar Farm owner.
The Todd Pletcher-trained American Patriot is under serious consideration for a tilt at Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes, his trainer told the UK’s Bracknell News. Should the 4-year-old son of War Front, recently the winner of the G1 Maker’s 46 Mile at Keeneland, make the trip overseas to Royal Ascot for the June 20 contest, he would become the second American-based runner to try the race in as many years.
Tepin, the superstar turf mare trained by Mark Casse, captured the race in her first overseas venture in 2016 for owner Robert Masterson. American Patriot, owned and bred by Kentucky’s WinStar Farm, is among 33 other entries for the Queen Anne, including Minding and possibly Miss Temple City.
“We have put American Patriot in the Queen Anne Stakes and are seriously considering bring him over,” Pletcher said. “He has matured into a big, strong beautiful horse with a nice turn of foot and a great disposition, so we feel he is a good candidate to take over to England.”
