Argentine Star Vale Dori To Take On Songbird, Stellar Wind In June’s Beholder Mile

Now that Vale Dori has won six Southern California races in a row, including five graded stakes, the 5-year-old daughter of Asiatic Boy (UAE Derby winner and earner of over $ 3.3 million) will face a major step up in class next month. Trainer Bob Baffert is preparing Vale Dori for the June 3 G1 Beholder Mile, which is likely to draw Eclipse Award winners Songbird and Stellar Wind.

Late last fall, Vale Dori finished third behind Beholder and Stellar Wind in the G1 Zenyatta Stakes. Baffert said that the mare, who made her first start stateside in August of 2016, was a bit “flighty” when she arrived, but has since improved.

Owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Maktoum, Vale Dori began her career in Argentina with a Grade 1 win in her third start. She ran twice in Dubai, her best finish a second in the G2 UAE Oaks, then came to Baffert’s barn in the United States. Overall, she has won 9 of 14 starts for earnings of $ 994,943.
