Australia: Michelle Payne rode her first winner since returning from a potentially career-ending fall at Coleraine on Sunday.

The Melbourne Cup-winning jockey was having her sixth ride back after returning earlier in the month, and she steered home Birds Of Tokyo in the Coleraine Bendigo Bank Cup.

In May this year Payne was considering her future in the saddle after a fall which caused serious injuries to her pancreas, but the history-making jockey vowed to return and is now back among the winners.

Last November she became the first female jockey to win the Emirates Melbourne Cup on 100-1 shot Prince Of Penzance, and although this Cup winner was not as illustrious, it was no less significant.

Victory was also not without its share of drama, as Birds Of Tokyo briefly lost her balance in the home straight and bounced off the running rail, but Payne righted the mare and kept going to the line.
