Beholder Takes It ‘Easy’ In Five Furlong Work; Points To Zenyatta Stakes

Recording her second work since finishing second to California Chrome in the TVG Pacific Classic, Beholder breezed five furlongs in 1:02 2/5 Friday morning at Santa Anita. In her first work since trainer Richard Mandella shipped his string from Del Mar to Santa Anita, Beholder stayed on track for the G1 Zenyatta Stakes at the Great Race Place on Oct. 1.

“It was very easy,” Mandella told the Daily Racing Form. “She was by herself. Next week, we’ll tighten it up a little bit. We’ll do a serious work next time.”

Beholder’s victory in the 2014 Zenyatta kicked off an eight-race win streak, including the 2015 Zenyatta. That win streak was upset two starts back, when Stellar Wind defeated the three-time Eclipse Award-winning 6-year-old in Del Mar’s Clement L. Hirsch.
