MICHAEL BELL will be hoping Big Orange can replicate Double Trigger’s feat in securing back-to-back wins in the Goodwood Cup with the two-time Group 2 scorer among 32 entries for the race.
Big Orange landed the two-mile contest in game fashion by a neck last year, defeating Quest For More, who is also entered for next month’s renewal.
Big Orange has not run since finishing third to Exosphere at Newmarket on 2,000 Guineas day and swerved the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot as conditions were on the soft side, but Bell has reported the horse to be in rude health.
Bell said: “Big Orange has been in great form at home. It is just that the ground has not been suitable for him so far this season as he is a better horse on good ground.
“We will see how his summer campaign goes first but it is possible that he could go to Australia again later this year.”
Queen Alexandra winner Commissioned and Sheikhzayedroad, a fine third in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot are also among the entries, which also include a trio of three-year-olds trained by Aidan O’Brien – Cole Porter, Housesofparliament and Sword Fighter.
King’s Stand victor Profitable is the star act among 39 entries for the Group 2 King George Stakes, with Magical Memory, Cotai Glory, Kachy, The Tin Man and French raider Son Cesio also possible runners.
Air Force Blue is entered in both the King George Stakes and the Lennox Stakes, with the latter contest attracting 41 entries including Nemoralia, Lumiere and Jersey Stakes winner Ribchester.
