USA: Beacon Rock and Humphrey Bogart feature among 14 colts invited to compete in the $ 1.25 million Belmont Derby on July 9.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Beacon Rock found only Across The Stars too good in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot and could be joined at Belmont by stablemate Bravery.

Humphrey Bogart also has the option of a trip to the United States, with owners Chelsea Thoroughbreds keen to take up the invitation.

“We are pretty keen on going,” said the group’s James Ramsden.

“It’s exciting to be invited to such a race, so we’re just working through the logistics of it at the moment with Richard Hannon.

“There’s ten people involved in the horse and it’s a great thrill for the owners. An invitation like this isn’t going to come along every day, so it’s great for the syndicate.”

Ramsden added that further targets in America could be explored should Humphrey Bogart run well at Belmont.

“While whizzing round bends in America might not be ideal for him, we are hoping that a decent pace and a drop back to 1m2f will suit.”

Alice Springs among fillies invited

As well as the colts, a further 14 fillies have also been invited for the $ 1 million Belmont Oaks on the same day, with Coronation Stakes third Alice Springs chief among them.

The Dermot Weld-trained Simannka, a winner at Down Royal earlier this month, is another filly invited, along with Turret Rocks for trainer Jim Bolger.
