Runhappy shown winning the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
Runhappy has been sidelined for the next 60 days with a bone bruise to his right front cannon bone, according to bloodhorse.com. The Breeders’ Cup Sprint champion recently returned to training at the Kentucky Training Center under the watchful eye of Laura Wohlers, but hadn’t been training as well as Wohlers expected.
“He had been reluctant to gallop,” Wohlers said. “He’d jog all day long, and he had no problem when he galloped the wrong way. The fact he was reluctant to gallop the other way suggested something was wrong. Now we know why.”
Dr. Larry Bramlage diagnosed the bone bruise, and Wohlers says that the injury should resolve itself with the time off. The trainer expects that Runhappy will still be able to make the Breeders’ Cup this year at Santa Anita, with a long-term goal of the Pegasus World Cup in January.
