A MOUTHWATERING showdown between star juveniles Lady Aurelia and Caravaggio looks to be off after trainer Aidan O’Brien said he planned to wait for the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket on September 24 with the latter.

Unbeaten in four, Caravaggio had been a possible for Sunday’s Prix Morny at Deauville after his Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes victory at the Curragh this month, but O’Brien said on Tuesday: “We’ve decided to wait and aim Caravaggio at the Middle Park. That is the plan as of now.”

The son of Scat Daddy is the 3-1 favourite for next season’s Qipco 2,000 Guineas, although connections have expressed doubts about him staying a mile, which may also apply to the speedy Lady Aurelia.

Trained by Wesley Ward, she bolted up by seven lengths in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and her Morny rivals will become clearer following Wednesday morning’s forfeit stage.
