Carina Mia captured the G1 Acorn in June; she most recently finished second to Songbird in the G1 CCA Oaks
Carina Mia, who most recently finished second to Songbird in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks, worked three furlongs in 36.68 seconds over the Oklahoma training track at Saratoga Friday morning.
The Daily Racing Form reported the work, and afterwards trainer Bill Mott told the publication that the 3-year-old filly would make her next start in the G1 Ballerina Stakes Aug. 27. Mott said he believed the seven furlong distance of the Ballerina would “offset” the fact that Carina Mia would be taking on older fillies and mares for the first time.
“I know the Ballerina can be won by a 3-year-old because it’s been done before,” Mott said. The Hall of Fame trainer won the Ballerina in 2000 with the 3-year-old Dream Supreme.
Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia may also run in the Ballerina. Cathryn Sophia was most recently third to Carina Mia in the Acorn.
