Catch A Glimpse breezes at Keeneland on Oct. 9
Gary Barber, Michael James Ambler, and Windways Farm’s Catch a Glimpse may have suffered her first turf defeat last out in the G2 Lake Placid Stakes, but the sophomore daughter of City Zip showed no signs of wear in a Sunday morning breeze at Keeneland. Skipping around the “dogs” on the turf course, the Mark Casse trainee covered a half-mile in 49 seconds as her final prep for the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup on Oct. 15 at the central Kentucky oval.
“All her breezes in the spring here were on the dirt so I’ve actually never seen her breeze on the turf, and she was just so smooth,” assistant trainer David Carroll told bloodhorse.com. “I was impressed with the way she moved. We’re going into the race here firing on all cylinders. She’s doing great and now we’ve got that breeze out of the way. Hopefully, we’ll have a good week and look forward to the Queen Elizabeth II.”
According to Carroll, the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf is not set in stone for Catch A Glimpse. The assistant indicated that the filly would have to both win the QEII and exit the race very, very well in order to be considered for the championships at Santa Anita. And the QEII is no cakewalk; Catch a Glimpse has to face Time and Motion once again, who is the first to defeat her on turf, as well as Mokat, Harmonize, and Stays in Vegas, among others.
