Catch A Glimpse (inside) holds off Time and Motion in the Belmont Oaks Invitational. Both fillies head the list of invitees to the QEII Challenge Cup at Keeneland
Gary Barber, Michael Ambler and Windways Farm’s Catch a Glimpse, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) here last fall and Canada’s reigning Horse of the Year, and Phillips Racing Partnership’s Time and Motion, who ended the eight-race winning streak of Catch a Glimpse in the Lake Placid (G2), head a roster of 11 invitees to the 33rd running of the $ 500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G1) Presented by Lane’s End for 3-year-old fillies.
Entries for the 1 1/8-mile turf race slated for next Saturday will be taken Wednesday.
Trained by Mark Casse, Catch a Glimpse has won eight of nine races on the grass including a victory over males in the Penn Mile (G3) in June at Penn National. Also among her turf victories is a score in this spring’s Appalachian (G3) here.
Time and Motion, trained by James Toner, turned the tables on Catch a Glimpse in the Lake Placid after finishing a half-length behind that rival in the Belmont Oaks Invitational (G1). Toner will seek his third victory in the race following Tribulation (1993) and Memories of Silver (1996).
The other Grade 1 winner among the invitees is Larkin Armstrong’s Harmonize. Trained by Bill Mott, Harmonize won the Del Mar Oaks (G1) in her most recent start and last fall won the JPMorgan Chase Jessamine (G3) here. Mott won the 2014 renewal of the QE II with Crown Queen.
Other graded stakes winners among the invitees are Stuart Janney III’s On Leave, a winner of four consecutive starts including a score in the Sands Point (G2); J K Racing Stable’s Mokat, winner of the San Clemente (G2); and Jungle Racing, KMN Racing and LNJ Foxwoods’ Stays in Vegas, winner of the Senorita (G3) and third to Harmonize in the Del Mar Oaks.
One of two group winners from Europe among the invitees is Qatar Racing’s Now Or Never (IRE), who will attempt to enhance her resume tomorrow in the First Lady (G1). Scheduled to arrive at Keeneland on Sunday is Chris Humber’s Hawksmoor (IRE), winner of the German One Thousand Guineas (G2) in June.
Completing the list of invitees are Martha and Del Pettigrew’s Outsider Art, Amy Moore’s Queen Caroline and Out Of This World Racing’s Try Your Luck.
