ED CHAMBERLIN will front ITV’s coverage of racing when its contract begins on January 1, 2017, the broadcaster confirmed on Wednesday.
Best known for hosting Monday Night Football on Sky Sports, Chamberlin has long been expected to land the much-sought-after gig and has described the opportunity as an exciting one that was “too good to miss”.
A fan of racing, Chamberlin worked for Ladbrokes prior to embarking on his career in the media, which has seen him spend 16 years at Sky Sports.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be joining ITV and to be given this great opportunity,” he said. “These are exciting times with ITV returning as the home of British racing from 1st January 2017.
“I had 16 years at Sky full of great memories and brilliant people. It was hard to leave but this opportunity was too good to miss.”
‘Skill matched only by love of racing’
ITV is set to broadcast almost 100 days of racing in 2017, with a minimum of 34 on its main channel and 60 on ITV4, the latter of which will also carry a magazine programme every Saturday morning.
Niall Sloane, ITV’s director of sport, said of the appointment of Chamberlin: “Ed’s skill as a presenter of live sport is matched only by his love of racing, so we’re delighted to bring someone with his attributes on board as we build up to our coverage starting in the new year.”
