CHAMPION apprentice Josephine Gordon rode out her claim at Wolverhampton on Friday night.

She rode her 95th career winner on Captain Ryan in the 5f Betway Sprint Distance Handicap, the last race on the card, to lose the right to an allowance.

Gordon, 23 and apprenticed to trainer Stan Moore, rode a winner earlier in the day at Lingfield for Godolphin trainer Saeed Bin Suroor to put herself one away from the landmark.

Until October last year she had only five 2015 wins but then rode four in the month to begin a winter rise that she maintained right through the summer to catch last year’s apprentice champion winner Tom Marquand.

The Geoffrey Deacon-trained Captain Ryan was Gordon’s 78th winner of 2016.
