Classic Winners Minding, Galileo Gold Square Off In Ascot’s Queen Elizabeth II Stakes

Champion Minding and jockey Ryan Moore overcame a troubled trip and drew off to win the G1 Investec Oaks

Six-time Group 1 winner Minding will look to rebound from a third-place finish in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes when she faces 12 rivals in Saturday’s Group 1 QIPCO Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot. The eight-furlong contest is one of four Group 1 contests scheduled on QIPCO British Champions Day.

Winner of both the G1 One Thousand Guineas and G1 Investec Oaks this season, Minding will have fellow 2016 classic winner Galileo Gold among her rivals. The Al Shaqab colorbearer has not been seen on the racecourse since finishing eighth in the G1 Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville in August. Earlier this season the son of Paco Boy captured the G1 Two Thousand Guineas and G1 St. James’s Palace Stakes.

Also in the line-up are Irish Two Thousand Guineas winner Awtaad, Irish One Thousand Guineas winner Jet Setting, and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner, Hit It a Bomb.
