ANDREW BALDING has confirmed Qatar Stewards’ Cup winner Dancing Star is likely to be supplemented for the Haydock Sprint Cup, taking place on September 3.
A relative of Lochsong, Dancing Star sent the Goodwood punters into raptures as she ran away a convincing winner of the 27-runner handicap as the 9-2 favourite.
Andrew Balding reports the filly to be in flying shape, prompting the decision to continue racing, rather than give her a break.
“The most likely thing is to look at Haydock and supplement there,” said Balding. “She’ll still go into the Ayr Gold Cup as an alternative but the thinking behind Haydock is she is so well and it is only a month away.
“Mark Johnston made a valid point recently, saying sometimes you think you’re doing horses a favour by giving them a break, but they can just end up going backwards.
“If she runs well there, she can go on to Ascot [in October] but if not, then she’s had a long season and we can finish it early.”
With a supplementary fee of £15,600, Dancing Star has more than covered the costs as she collected £155,625.00 for winning the Qatar Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood.
In taking her place in the 6f contest she will hope to go better than Lochsong, who finished third in 1993.
