SILVESTRE DE SOUSA has been given a 12-day ban by the BHA under its totting-up procedures.

An additional six days have been deferred for 42 days and would be triggered by any further disciplinary breach during that period.

Lingfield stewards sent the file to the BHA’s High Holborn headquarters following De Sousa’s ride aboard Swiss Cross on June 16, which they deemed to be in contravention of the whip rules, a fifth such offence committed by the champion jockey in the last six months.

Three of De Sousa’s recent bans were of the most minor on the scale and incurred two day suspensions, while two were not for exessive use of the whip.
