Disco Partner Blazes Six Furlongs In 1:05.67 To Win Jaipur In Record Time

Disco Partner and Irad Ortiz Jr. win the Jaipur in 1:05.67 – the fastest six furlongs every run in North America

Patricia Generazio’s New York homebred Disco Partner set a new track, North American and world record time of 1:05.67 for six furlongs on Saturday, winning the Grade 3 Jaipur with an explosive stretch run under Irad Ortiz Jr. Green Mask finished a half length behind in second, with Holding Gold third by a similar margin, and 2016 Jaipur winner Pure Sensation 2 3/4 lengths farther back in fourth.

The win by the gray son of Disco Rico shattered the previous six-furlong North American turf record of 1:06.76, set by Pure Sensation in last year’s Jaipur. It is the fastest six furlongs on any surface in North America,  eclipsing the dirt record of 1:06.49 established by Twin Sparks at Turf Paradise in Arizona on Nov. 21, 2009.

The winner is trained by Christophe Clement, who also trains Pure Sensation.

Pure Sensation outfooted Loose on the Town to take the early lead, going the opening quarter mile in :21.43 and a half in :43.04. He was joined by Loose on the Town and Stormy Liberal – who broke slowly – turning into the stretch, with Disco Partner moving up on the rail and looking for racing room. Ortiz swung out, finding a narrow seam in mid-stretch – the five furlongs sizzling in :54.35 – and Disco Partner shot through the gap and drew off for the win.

This was Disco Partner’s seventh career win from 17 lifetime starts and his first in a graded stakes. He was coming off a 1 3/4-length victory in the Elusive Quality Stakes going seven furlongs on turf at Belmont Park in his 2017 debut. Prior to this year, Disco Partner was trained by James Ryerson.
