The Coolmore partners Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith have the hot favorite on their hands in Idaho for Saturday’s Group 1 Ladbrokes St. Leger Stakes at Doncaster. The sophomore son of Galileo, under the tutelage of Aidan O’Brien, was third in the Epsom Derby and second in the Irish Derby this year already, and most recently captured the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York. He is the odds-on favorite for the St. Leger.
“Everything has been good with Idaho since York, where everything went smooth for him,” O’Brien told racingpost.com. “He is a horse we have always had high hopes for.
“You never can be confident but we have always thought he would get the trip in the Ladbrokes St Leger. He seems to relax and is a full-brother to Highland Reel who stays a mile and a half well.”
O’Brien is expected to enter as many as three more horses alongside Idaho, including Housesofparliament, Sword Fighter and Triplicate.
Also entered in the St. Leger are the John Gosden-trained second-choice Muntahaa and Kentucky-bred Red Verdon, trained by Ed Dunlop.
