Champion Minding and jockey Ryan Moore overcame a troubled trip and drew off to win the G1 Investec Oaks
Derrick Smith, Mrs. John Magnier and Michael Tabor’s 3-year-old filly Minding added another Group 1 victory to her impressive resume in the Curragh’s Pretty Polly Stakes, crossing the wire 4 1/2 lengths in front of her competition, reports racingpost.com. The Irish-bred daughter of Galileo was ridden to the victory by Ryan Moore for trainer Aidan O’Brien, and was facing older fillies and mares for the first time in her career.
“She’s a high class filly,” said Moore. “She’s adaptable, and goes on a variety of ground. I’m very lucky to ride her, she’s a pleasure.”
The Pretty Polly is Minding’s fifth Group 1 win, and her sixth lifetime win from just nine starts. Bookmakers have posted an early price of 8-1 on the star filly for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, equal to that of Epsom and Irish Derby winner Harzand. O’Brien has several other stars in training for the prestigious race, but did suggest that he hopes the filly will stay in training through the age of four.
