Harzand (Pat Smullen) beats Idaho (Ryan Moore) in the Irish Derby.
Dual Derby winner Harzand is among 19 runners remaining at the confirmation stage on Tuesday morning, for Sunday’s G1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, the Sporting Life reports.
Harzand, winner of the G1 Investec Derby and G1 Irish Derby, will attempt to provide trainer Dermot Weld with his first victory in the Arc. Harzand will go into the race off a disappointing eighth-place finish in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes. Weld ruled out running Fascinating Rock on Tuesday, leaving 2015 Arc-winning jockey Frankie Dettori, without a mount in the race.
Trainer Aidan O’Brien has left three runners in at the current stage – Highland Reel, Found, and Order Of St George.
Longtime Arc favorite Postponed, winner of four G1 races this season, also has been confirmed for the race.
