Favored Enola Gray Scratched From Del Mar’s Torrey Pines

Likely to have gone off as the heavy favorite in Sunday’s G3 Torrey Pines Stakes at Del Mar, Nick Alexander’s Enola Gray has been scratched from the race, reports TVG.

According to Jim Charvat on Twitter, trainer Phil D’Amato said that the 3-year-old filly coughed up some mucus after a routine gallop on Saturday.

The California-bred daughter of Grazen would have been facing open company for the first time, but she has compiled a perfect 3-for-3 record in state-bred company, including two stakes races.

D’Amato has another filly still in the race, Bellamentary, who will likely take up the mantle of favoritism in place of her stablemate. That filly was most recently second behind Songbird in the Summertime Oaks back in June.
