THERE will be a shake-up to the Northumberland Plate market as ante-post favourite Dannyday failed to make the cut for Saturday’s £150,000 handicap, in which a maximum field of 20 have been declared.

Sir Michael Stoute’s lightly-raced four-year-old had been the 8-1 favourite on the back of an impressive win at Chelmsford but instead runs in the consolation race.

Recent York winner Saigon City, who is rated 1lb higher than Dannyday, was the last horse to sneak into the race, which will be run on the all-weather for the first time.

Redemption for Rogers

In the absence of Dannyday, the Roger Varian-trained Steve Rogers heads the market at 6-1 with bet365.

Steve Rogers had looked steadily progressive prior to disappointing when 7-2 favourite in the Chester Cup and will renew rivalry with the first two home on that occasion, No Heretic and Nakeeta.

Angel Gabrial, who won this race in 2014, is one of two representatives for trainer Richard Fahey and owner Marwan Koukash. They also send out Gabrial The Hero.
