NOEL FEHILY will have the chance to add another big race to his CV on Friday when he rides in Jersey for the first time.
Fehily, who won the 2012 Champion Hurdle on Rock On Ruby, partners Rossetti in the Smith and Williamson Channel Islands Champion Hurdle at Les Landes.
Rossetti won the race by ten lengths 12 months ago when ridden by Mattie Batchelor for local champion trainer Alyson Malzard, but the eight-year-old is now with Neil Mulholland. No horse has retained the Channel Islands Champion Hurdle crown since Gunner Sid in 2000.
“Neil asked me to ride, so I was delighted to give it a try,” Fehily said. “I’ve never been to Jersey on the racing front and it’ll be nice to try something different.”
Back from injury
Fehily returned to action on Wednesday at Worcester following a heavy fall at Newton Abbot at the start of May that caused him to be him airlifted to hospital, and is pleased to be back.
“I had a couple of rides and was just touched off on both, but I felt good and it’s good to be back,” he added.
Mattie Batchelor will be bidding to win Friday’s showpiece for the fourth consecutive year and teams up with the former Oliver Sherwood-trained Drum Valley, who is now with Malzard.
Several other British trainers are represented on the five-race card including Tony Carroll, Mick Appleby, Brendan Powell and Natalie Lloyd-Beavis.
