Footpad – Ryanair Novice Chase, Punchestown Festival (2018)

What a horse he is – supreme athlete Footpad crowns a sparkling novice season with five wins from five races in the Grade 1 Ryanair Novice Chase at the Punchestown Festival under jockey Daryl Jacob for trainer Willie Mullins and owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede.

Despite racing exclusively at the minimum distance this season, the former Champion Hurdle third has won his five starts over fences by a combined 53 lengths and is now a four-time Grade 1 winner over the larger obstacles after victory in the Racing Post Novice Chase, Irish Arkle and Arkle Challenge Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival earlier in the campaign.

“That was some performance and probably better than Cheltenham, I thought,” said Willie Mullins.
