HONG KONG’S Diamond Jubilee Stakes contender Gold-Fun pleased trainer Richard Gibson as he warmed up with a gallop at Sha Tin on Monday.

The seven-year-old, who will be ridden by Christophe Soumillon at Royal Ascot a week on Saturday, had a 5f turf barrier trial under Chad Schofield.

“We were happy with that,” said Gibson. “We just wanted a nice easy trial before travelling on Friday and Chad was very pleased with his action. He gave him a bit of a blow and it’s all systems go for next week.”

Gold-Fun, who is due to arrive at Abington Place Stables in Newmarket on Saturday afternoon, had been under consideration for Ascot last season and is expected to be suited by the track.

“We considered running the horse last year but he had this chip in the ankle, which we took out,” Gibson said. “We always thought the 1,200m at Ascot would suit him better than the 1,200 in Hong Kong. We’d hope that the straight at Ascot, going up the hill, would be a test of his true ability.

“I don’t have any worries about him handling the track there. He raced pretty well in Ireland as a young horse, so if we get him there in good shape he’s definitely one of the contenders. He’s a very straightforward, mature gelding – he’s an old pro.”

Gold-Fun, who has won ten times in Hong Kong and finished second in the Hong Kong Sprint last December, is a best-priced 14-1 for the Diamond Jubilee with Sky Bet and Gibson said: “We’ve kept this horse very fresh and he runs very well fresh.”
