VAN DER DECKEN, winner of a maiden at the Curragh on debut for trainer Paddy Twomey, will form part of Godolphin’s Royal Ascot squad after the high-profile owners confirmed the purchase of the son of Dutch Art on Sunday.
The juvenile will remain with Twomey for his next start, which is likely to come in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes, but will race in the famous Godolphin silks going forward.
Godolphin chief executive John Ferguson told Godolphin.com: “He is an athletic colt, who has been well educated, and he is just the type to add depth to our juvenile line-up at the royal meeting and beyond.”
Van Der Decken, a comfortable two-and-a-quarter-length winner on debut, is a 20-1 chance with Coral to give County Tipperary-based Twomey a first Royal Ascot success on June 14.
