Goodyearforroses provided jockey Corey Nakatani with his first stakes victory since returning to the saddle when she cruised to a 5 1/4-length win in the Robert J. Frankel Stakes at Santa Anita.
Originally carded for nine furlongs on the turf, the race was moved to the sloppy main track as a result of heavy rains. Due to the change, the race was downgraded from a Grade 3 to a Listed race, pending further review.
Just four fillies and mares went to the post in the Robert Frankel, with Keri Belle sent off as the favorite. At the start it was Frenzified that took a slight lead, but she was quickly joined by Pretty Girl and the two battled through the opening half-mile.
Nakatani had Goodyearforroses tracking the front pair from third, and as the field moved past the half-mile pole, Goodyearforroses swept to the front. The rest of the race was a formality, as Goodyearforroses skipped over the slop, eventually cruising to a 5 1/4-length victory.
Pretty Girl held on for second, with Frenzified tiring to finish third. Final time for the nine furlongs was 1:51.42.
Goodyearforroses was bred in Ireland by The Hornets. She is a 4-year-old daughter of Azamour, out of Guilia (by Galileo). She is trained by Richard Baltas for owner Abbondanza Racing LLC.
