Jagdish Bansode: Time Test’s groom

To celebrate Stable Staff week, Jagdish Bansode, a groom at Roger Charlton’s yard, writes a daily diary in the lead-up to Saturday’s Coral-Eclipse as he helps prepare Time Test for the big race

This morning Time Test had his final breeze on our polytrack gallop before Saturday’s Coral-Eclipse and Steve Raymont reported he was very happy with the horse. After exercise I washed Time Test’s mane and tail and took him for a pick of grass. I could tell he was very pleased with himself and his coat had a very good shine to it.
I then helped the vet with the morning scopes and trotted up some horses for him to assess. I also turned out yesterday’s runners from Bath. It was great for the yard that we had two winners and the horses seemed happy when I turned them out. I had some friendly banter with my brother Amarnath Bansode as he is a head foreman for Godolphin – we love reminding each other when our yards have just had a winner!
I’m keeping my fingers crossed there’s no more rain between now and Saturday and am delighted the weather forecast has improved. Yesterday I wondered if the rain was ever going to stop at Beckhampton! But I was glad to see that Sandown did not have as much rain as we did.
At evening stables I’ll check that Time Test is okay, put him on the walker for half an hour and then muck him out and groom him, so he’s ready to be looked at by Mr Charlton. Time Test is always such a gentleman in the stable.
