SOLE POWER, twice a winner of the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, will miss the race this year having been taken out of the Group 1 sprint due to the ground.

The going on the straight course at Ascot was good to soft on Monday morning with showers due before the King’s Stand Stakes, one of three Group 1 contests on the opening day of the meeting.

Sole Power had been a 20-1 chance for the King’s Stand Stakes behind favourite Mecca’s Angel, who is into 5-2 for victory with second favourite Acapulco also a possible non-runner after trainer Wesley Ward said she could still be switched to the Commonwealth Cup on Friday.

Time Test will not be lining up at the meeting at all after trainer Roger Charlton elected to target the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown next month instead of the Prince of Wales’s Stakes on Wednesday.

Charlton wrote on Twitter: “Time Test will not be declared to run in the Prince of Wales and he will be aimed at the Eclipse. Hoping for quicker ground.”

Japanese raider A Shin Hikari heads six declarations for the Prince of Wales’s Stakes along with My Dream Boat, The Grey Gatsby, Western Hymn, Found and Tryster.
