Gun Runner Works Half-Mile In Final Move For G1 Stephen Foster Handicap

Winchell Thoroughbreds’ and Three Chimneys Farm’s Gun Runner completed his final workout for Saturday’s G1 Stephen Foster Handicap by working a half-mile in :49.40 at Churchill Downs June 12.

The Steve Asmussen trainee worked shortly after 6:30 a.m. Monday morning. Ridden by exercise rider Andrew Garcia, Gun Runner had splits of :13,:24.80 and out five furlongs in 1:03.40.

“Gun Runner is a very impressive horse. He put in his serious work in the last couple of weeks,” Asmussen told the BloodHorse. “He just had a nice, easy half-mile today. Obviously we’re very excited about running him Saturday.”

The Stephen Foster will be the third start of the year for Gun Runner. The 4-year-old colt by Candy Ride started the year with a win in the G3 Razorback Handicap and then was second to Arrogate in the G1 Dubai World Cup.
