Hard Aces Requires Stitches For Foreleg Cut After Pacific Classic

Hronis Racing’s Hard Aces and jockey Santiago Gonzalez win the Grade III $ 100,000 Cougar II Handicap

Hard Aces finished up eighth in Saturday’s G1 Pacific Classic at Del Mar, but jockey Santiago Gonzalez was not riding the horse very hard down lane, according to trainer John Sadler. After the race, he discovered the reason why – Hard Aces had a cut on his foreleg that required stitches, reported the Daily Racing Form.

Speculating that Hard Aces was struck by a rival after leaving the gate, Sadler said that the injury, while not severe, would keep the horse out of races until the start of the fall meet at Santa Anita.

Hard Aces won the G1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita in 2015, and in his most recent start won the G3 Cougar II Handicap at Del Mar.
