HARZAND will run in this afternoon’s Investec Derby, with connections satisfied the colt has suffered no ill-effects from spreading a plate on his way to the track.

The Ballysax winner, generally an 8-1 chance for the race, had a front foot iced after spreading the plate, and the treatment has worked as trainer Dermot Weld’s son Mark confirmed Harzand will still run.

He said: “He has been re-plated and is trotting sound.”

Dermot Weld, speaking earlier in the day, was confident Harzand would still run despite the minor setback, and said: “He is in superb order and will love the ground is is trained for the day.”
