ENDLESS TIME came out on top in an attritional finish on rain-softened ground at Haydock.

The Charlie Appleby-trained four-year-old, sent off the 11-4 favourite, hit the front inside the final furlong and appeared to win with a little more in hand than the half a length margin of victory over Furia Cruzada suggested.

It was Loving Things who took third, with barely two lengths covering the first five home. German raider Nightflower could manage only fourth under Freddy Tylicki.

Appleby dreaming of Ascot

Saturday’s outing was Endless Time‘s first of the campaign, following a progressive 2015 season that concluded with a Listed success at Naas in October.

The daughter of Sea The Stars is now set for another busy second half of the year, with Charlie Appleby eyeing Champions Day at Ascot as her main target.

“We’ve purposely trained her for a late summer and autumn campaign and she loves the juice in the ground,” said the Godolphin trainer. “The more rain they had up there, the happier I was going to be.

“We might be being a bit bold but we’re working back from the Fillies & Mares’ at Ascot on Champions Day, that was always the plan with her. We hoped we’d win today and maybe we’ll look at the Yorkshire Oaks next.”
