Hong Kong’s Horse Of The Year Werther Out Three Months With Suspensory Injury

Wether, the Horse of the Year in Hong Kong this past season, was injured in a freak accident during morning training on Saturday, according to the South China Morning Post.

“He is a very aggressive horse and he can do this sort of thing at times,” said trainer John Moore. “He was coming off the track after working and tried to kick another horse, a horse from another stable, and he missed and slipped over.”

The slip injured a rear suspensory, and rules Werther out of competition for three months. Moore expects to have the Hong Kong Derby and QE II Cup winner back in time for a spring campaign, though the horse will surely miss the Longines Hong Kong International meeting.
