Idaho Follows Full Brother’s Footsteps To Score In Hardwicke

A full brother to Highland Reel, winner of the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes earlier in the week at Royal Ascot, Idaho followed the same path to win Saturday’s Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes. Both sons of Galileo are owned by the Coolmore partners Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Mrs. John Magnier and trained by Aidan O’Brien.

The 4-year-old Idaho, ridden by Seamie Heffernan, was mid-pack early in the 1 1/2-mile contest, charging to the lead in the straight and holding off Barsanti to cross the wire in front. Barsanti was second over Chemical Charge, and the Queen’s defending Hardwicke winner Dartmouth finished fourth.

Idaho has now won three of his 11 career starts, including a pair of Group 2 stakes, and placed in another two Group 1 events.

More to come.
