CHEPSTOW must pass a 9.30am inspection if racing is to take place on Monday afternoon after persistent rain led to fears about waterlogging.

The course was hit by 15mm of rain on Sunday and a further 5mm of rain on Monday morning, which has seen the going ease to heavy.

Further rain is forecast before racing and clerk of the course Keith Ottensen thought it was necessary to have a look at conditions.

Ottesen said: “It is heavy right now and water is beginning to lie on top of the ground.

“It is due to rain until about 2pm and we are forecast 10mm, so we are having an inspection to see how much more the course can take.”

The first race at Chepstow is due off at 2pm.
