J Boys Echo Likely To Make Next Start In G3 Iowa Derby

J Boys Echo breezed five furlongs in 1:01 under Tammy Fox at Churchill Downs April 29

J Boys Echo, who finished 15th in the G1 Kentucky Derby, is being pointed to the G3 Iowa Derby at Prairie Meadows July 7.

The Daily Racing Form reports that the Dale Romans-trained colt came out of the Derby last week with some “minor stiffness, but is otherwise fine.”

“The Albaughs (the owners of J Boys Echo) are from Iowa, so obviously they’d like to win the Iowa Derby,” Romans told the Form. “We’ve got plenty of time to work with to try to make that race if that’s what we settle on.”

J Boys Echo, a son of Horse of the Year Mineshaft, captured the G3 Gotham Stakes and was third in the G3 Withers earlier this year.
