La Coronel, recent winner of the G3 Appalachian Stakes at Keeneland, may take on the boys in her next start.
According to the Daily Racing Form, trainer Mark Casse is likely to run the daughter of Colonel John in the G2 American Turf, a 1 1/16-mile contest for colts and fillies, on Derby Day. La Coronel has also been entered in the G3 Edgewood Stakes, a 1 1/16-mile turf event for fillies, on Oaks Day.
Casse told the DRF that the filly Dream Dancing would run in the Edgewood, while La Coronel would go in the American Turf. “We feel like she’s good enough to do it,” Casse said.
Should La Coronel do well in the American Turf, a trip to Royal Ascot could be on the agenda for the talented filly. Casse indicated that a start in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes is a possibility. “Our feeling is this race is a good test to see if she should go there,” Casse said.
