Lady Aurelia and John Velazquez win Royal Ascot’s King’s Stand Stakes, just 0.01 off the course record
George Bolton, Peter Leidel and Stonestreet Stable’s Lady Aurelia was very impressive taking the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes during the Royal Ascot meeting, and trainer Wesley Ward told racinguk.com that the 3-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy is progressing well toward her next target, the Group 1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York on Aug. 25.
“She did some beautiful work on Tuesday, she’s got a couple more works to go and we’ll be ready,” said Ward. “She came back from Ascot in unbelievable shape and we’re really happy with her.”
Ward added that he was not particularly concerned about the weather, noting that Lady Aurelia ran over the wet ground at Ascot in 2016. She has been breezing over the turf course at Keeneland, including a five-furlong move in 1:02.20 on Monday. The filly has won five of her six career starts and earned over $ 700,000.
