FRANKEL’S sons and daughters have been making a huge impact on British courses this season, and Lightening Fast will bid to uphold family honour in Ireland at the Curragh on Saturday afternoon.

To date there have been eight juvenile runners sired by Frankel to make the track in his first season as a stallion, and only one of those has failed to win. Queen Kindly, third in the Albany at Royal Ascot, has won twice, while Seven Heavens created a very favourable impression on debut at Ascot last week.

Lightening Fast is the first progeny of Frankel to race in Ireland and is trained by Ger Lyons for Qatar Racing. He starts his career in the seven furlong Darley European Breeders Fund Maiden (2.55).

Out of Lightening Pearl, who was also trained by Lyons and won the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes in 2011, Lightening Fast holds entries for the Group 1 Phoenix and National Stakes.

David Redvers, representing Qatar Racing, said: “He’s well liked by Ger who expects him to run well and improve for the experience.”

Zenyatta’s brother also on show

There is another superstar bloodline later in the card, as De Coronado makes his debut for Aidan O’Brien in the 1m4f Kilsaran International Maiden (6.50).

The three-year-old son of Street Cry is a full brother to Breeders’ Cup heroine Zenyatta.

The mare only tasted defeat once in 19 starts, when attempting to defend her Breeders’ Cup Classic crown, and De Coronado faces 11 rivals, including stablemates London and New Milennium.
