MARK WALSH has been confirmed as the rider for Alan King’s Stan James Champion Hurdle contender Yanworth.

With Barry Geraghty ruled out of the Cheltenham Festival after being injured at Kempton last month, powerful owner JP McManus has had to reorganise his riding plans with the loss of his retained jockey.

Walsh has enjoyed success for McManus, notably last year’s Irish Gold Cup on Carlingford Lough.

He now has a pair of leading chances to land a first race at the festival with Yanworth, who is the 7-2 Champion Hurdle favourite with some firms, and former Ryanair winner Uxizandre.
