Millionaire Louisiana-Bred Sunbean Retired

Sunbean wins the Louisiana Champions Day Classic in 2014.

Sunbean has been a force to be reckoned with on the Louisiana-bred stakes circuit since he won the Louisiana Futurity in 2012, in just his second career start. Now a 7-year-old, the ever-consistent gelding has officially been retired, reports the Daily Racing Form, due to a recurring tendon injury.

“We wouldn’t take any chance with the horse,” said trainer Ron Faucheux. “He’s still in the barn with us. Once this quarantine (at Fair Grounds) is lifted we’ll probably send him to Clear Creek [farm] and find a good home for him.”

Owned by his breeders Evelyn and Maurice Benoit’s Brittlyn Stable, Sunbean won a total of 16 of his 27 starts for earnings of $ 1,172,250. He won the Louisiana Champions Day Classic in both 2013 and 2014, and all of his wins came in listed stakes company.
