Minding Cruises In G2 Mooresbridge Stakes; Wires The Field In Impressive 2017 Debut

Champion Minding and jockey Ryan Moore overcame a troubled trip and drew off to win the 2016 G1 Investec Oaks

Champion Minding made a successful return to the races when she went wire-to-wire on her way to winning the Group 2 Mooresbridge Stakes at Naas Racecourse May 1.

The 4-year-old daughter of Galileo picked up where she left off last season, when she concluded the year by winning the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot in October. That victory was Minding’s fifth G1 of the year, and seventh overall.

Piloted by regular rider Ryan Moore for trainer Aidan O’Brien, Minding faced just three rivals in the 10-furlong Mooresbridge. Breaking alertly under Moore, Minding took command soon after the break and was never threatened as she cruised to a 3 1/2-length victory over Godolphin’s Moonlight Magic.

“We’re delighted to get her season started and I’m very pleased with that performance,” O’Brien told the Racing Post after the race. “She’s done well physically since last year and is very enthusiastic about racing.”

“The Tattersalls Gold Cup (May 28) might be next for her, although there is also the Lockinge (May 20) to consider. We’ll take one race at a time but obviously the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot would look another target.”
