Miss Temple City To Make 2017 Debut In Distaff Turf Mile

Miss Temple City (Temple City) wins the Shadwell Turf Mile (G1) at Keeneland on 10.08.2016.

Multiple Grade 1 winner Miss Temple City will make her long-awaited 2017 debut in Saturday’s G2 Churchill Downs Distaff Turf Mile.

Trainer Graham Motion told the Daily Racing Form Tuesday morning that the 5-year-old mare would run in the $ 300,000 stakes race, which is on the Kentucky Derby undercard.

Miss Temple City lost some training time earlier this year after she got loose one morning at Palm Meadows.

“She had filling in a leg and it took a couple of weeks to settle down,” Motion said. “There was no structural damage but she must have whacked it. We gave her plenty of time and she’s been good ever since.”

Motion is hoping to use the Distaff Turf Mile as a prep for a trip to Royal Ascot in June. Miss Temple City is nominated to both the Group 1 Queen Anne and the Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes.

“Could she be a work short? Maybe, but if we want to run in Ascot we kind of have to run this weekend,” Motion said. “It’s getting late now and we really want to go to Ascot with her.”
