Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Cornwallis Stakes (Group 3) 5f, 2yo

BARGAIN buy Mrs Danvers stayed unbeaten with another fine performance, as her latest victory took her to five from five for the season.

Unsold through the ring at £1,000, Mrs Danvers has since banked in excess of £195,000 and her speed was evident again as she set a course record at the minimum trip for juveniles, stopping the clock at 58.69 seconds.

Battaash took the field along at a ferocious pace, and, while others were unable to live with the leader, 2-1 favourite Mrs Danvers was in prime position for Richard Kingscote before taking over.

Clem Fandango stuck on for second, with Battaash fading to third.

Winning trainer Jonny Portman said: “She’s very special, she’s got the speed and spirit.

“She wasn’t quite right after her last run and it’s been a rush to get here. Next year, we’ll have to think about races like the Commonwealth Cup and the Nunthorpe.”

Paddy Power responded to the impressive display by making Mrs Danvers a 10-1 chance for the Commonwealth Cup.
