Nelson – Champions Juvenile Stakes (Irish Champions Weekend)

A race won by the likes of dual-Derby winner Australia in the past, Frankel colt Nelson powers to an impressive victory on Irish Champions Weekend in the Group 3 Willis Towers Watson Champions Juvenile Stakes at Leopardstown under jockey Donnacha O’Brien for trainer and father Aidan O’Brien.

A three-quarters brother to the stable’s smart US Army Ranger, the imposing Nelson leads home stablemates Kew Gardens and Delano Roosevelt to make it two wins from four starts.

As short as 16/1 for next year’s Investec Derby, Nelson could have Group 1 ambitions later on this season: “He’s very well bred and is a horse to really look forward to,” said Aidan O’Brien. “He stays well and looks a Racing Post Trophy-type horse.”
