NO CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL FOR VROUM VROUM MAG CONFIRMS WILLIE MULLINS, HER TRAINER
Her coach and trainer retired award-winning Vroum Vroum Mag back in 2016. The famous nine-year-old Mare who from twenty-one races have won fourteen did not make it through to the list for the OLBG Mares’ Hurdle. She won this same race in 2016 and was runner-up 12 months ago finishing next to Jade, the Apple-owned Mare.
Her trainer, Mullins, in a news report, said, “Vroum Vroum Mag hadn’t been working well. She worked poorly yesterday, and we’ve decided to retire her.” According to Mullins, Vroum Vroum Mag is the most terrific hurdle and fence jumper, with the right scope to do what she does best.
Since her disappointing performance in the last Punchestown Championship Hurdle Festival, bagging the seventh position as a result of an injury, rumours have lingered on that that might be her last race. Although about a month ago, her trainer reported that she was progressing, he has now finally accepted that the best for Mag is a retirement.
With Ricci Susannah and Rich as her owners for the most of her career, she has to her victories, a bumper in France, 7- hurdle races with one also in France and six other races. Last year alone, she was enlisted into the Cheltenham to race for the Gold Cup, The Ryanair Chase, Stayers Hurdle, Mare’s Hurdle, Champion Chase and the Champion Hurdle.
She has won more than 420,000 Euros in win and place prize cash and would end up as expected ‘a valuable broodmare.’
“She was an exceptional Worker at home and in a race, you could put her to sleep or make the running. She was able to win at Grade 1 level over 2 miles and 3 miles”, said Mullins.
The owner’s manager, Joe Chambers, has confirmed this report. He said, “I can confirm Vroum Vroum Mag has been retired.”
