Order Of St George Storms To Victory In Ascot Gold Cup

Winner of the Gold Cup in Honour of The Queens 90th Birthday, Ryan Moore riding Order of St George

Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore teamed up for Gold Cup in Honour of The Queen’s 90th Birthday success on Day Three of Royal Ascot with Order of St George.

The heavily fancied odds-on favorite had impressed in Ireland and worries about the soft ground proved irrelevant as Moore pushed the button two furlongs out to storm to the front.

Even Song won the previous race (Group 2 Ribblesdale) to land O’Brien his 50th Royal Ascot winner and he only had to wait a matter of minutes to earn 51 with Order of St George.

On a day which saw England beat Wales in Euro 2016, Order of St George pleased punters on course as they cheered the patriotically named winner home.

Mizzou, an Ascot specialist, ran a big race into second after disappointing in the same race last year.

Sheikhzayedroad and Mille Et Mille completed the places.

Order of St George was bred in Ireland by Paget Bloodstock and races for the partnership of Michael Tabor, Susan Magnier, Derrick Smith, and L.J. Williams. He is a 4-year-old colt by Galileo out of Another Storm, by Gone West. Another Storm is out of Storm Song, champion juvenile filly in 1996.
