Oscar Performance was a front-running winner of the Pilgrim under Jose Ortiz.
Amerman Racing’s Oscar Performance scored his second consecutive front-running daylight victory, romping to an easy win as the 8-5 favorite in Saturday’s Grade 3 Pilgrim Stakes on a yielding Belmont Park turf course under Jose Ortiz. The 2-year-old colt by Kitten’s Joy, bred in Kentucky by Mrs. Jerry Amerman and trained by Brian Lynch, covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.88 after fractions of :23.55 for the quarter, :48.98 for the half, 1:12.63 for six furlongs and 1:36.60 for a mile.
J.S Choice finished second, with a fast closing Kitten’s Cat third and Frostmourne fourth in a field of 8. Bird’s Eye View was scratched by recommendation of the track veterinarian after becoming fractious in the starting gate.
Oscar Performance was produced form the Theatrical mare Devine Actress, who won the 2010 Santa Lucia Handicap at Santa Anita carrying the colors of John and Jerry Amerman. The colt is a full brother to Oscar Nominated, winner of the G3 Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park and 17th in this year’s G1 Kentucky Derby. Oscar Nominated recently won the Dueling Grounds Derby at Kentucky Downs.
Oscar Performance finished sixth in his career debut at Saratoga July 23, then returned a month later on Aug. 20 to score wire to wire by a decisive 10 1/4 lengths.
